Lino-cut print on French’s paper, 2014, 18″ x 20″ on 25″ x 18″ paper.  French is a great paper manufacturer from Niles Michigan.

Obed Edom is a very beautiful and special character from the book of 2 Samuel 6, and 1 Chronicles 13, as well as a few other mentions later in Chronicles.  King David, while attempting to bring the the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem on an ox cart, encountered some trouble at the threshing floor of Nacon, and a fellow named Uzzah was killed for touching the ark.  David was afraid to take it to Jerusalem after that and took it instead to Obed Edom’s house.  It has always stirred my heart and imagination; why Obed Edom.  I don’t imagine David chose to leave the Ark of God’s presence with just anyone.  When the Philistines captured it and possessed it, it was a curse unto them, but to Obed Edom, it was a great blessing.  The fear of God was a real thing in those days- I can’t imagine what it must have been like for Oben Edom to have this terrifying object/presence so near.
